Complex Reeections and Polynomial Generators of Homotopy Groups We Begin with the Natural Identiication

چکیده
Starting from suitable maps of the form :S n !SU(m), for large m, we obtain functions :S n ?!SU(k) that generate n SU(k), for certain n and k. We have used this method in elementary algebraic topology courses for purposes of illustration, since it requires no machinery beyond the homotopy exact sequence of brations and provides an insight about the Bott periodicity theorems.

Inequalities for the polar derivative of a polynomial with $S$-fold zeros at the origin
Let $p(z)$ be a polynomial of degree $n$ and for a complex number $alpha$, let $D_{alpha}p(z)=np(z)+(alpha-z)p'(z)$ denote the polar derivative of the polynomial p(z) with respect to $alpha$. Dewan et al proved that if $p(z)$ has all its zeros in $|z| leq k, (kleq 1),$ with $s$-fold zeros at the origin then for every $alphainmathbb{C}$ with $|alpha|geq k$, begin{align*} max_{|z|=...
متن کاملClass Groups of Multiplicative Invariants
Let G be a nite subgroup of GL d (Z). Then G acts on the Laurent polynomial ring kX 1 1 d ] over the eld k via the natural G-action on the multiplicative group generated by the variables X 1 ; : : : ; X d (= Z d). We show that the class group of the ring of invariants of this action is isomorphic to Hom(G=N;k) H 1 (G=D; (Z d) D), where N denotes the subgroup of G that is generated by all reeect...
متن کاملOn Complex Reflection Groups and Their Associated Braid Groups
Presentations \\ a la Coxeter" are given for all (irreducible) nite complex reeec-tion groups. They provide presentations for the corresponding generalized braid groups (still conjectural in some cases) which allow us to generalize some of the known properties of nite Coxeter groups (center of the braid group, construction of Hecke algebras). 1. Background from complex reflection groups For all...
متن کاملPolynomial evaluation groupoids and their groups
In this paper, we show how certain metabelian groups can be found within polynomial evaluation groupoids. We show that every finite abelian group can beobtained as a polynomial evaluation groupoid.
متن کاملAn Application of Complex Bordism to the Stable Homotopy Groups of Spheres
X a finite complex. This has brought us into contact with many new and interesting questions concerning the readabi l i ty of certain cyclic S2*-modules as complex bordism modules of finite complexes. Needless to say it has also involved us in the stable homotopy groups of spheres, particularly with the occurrence of certain types of infinite families of elements in the ^-component (see the dis...
